Visiting Speakers Program in Oncology - "Update on Melanoma Treatment" by Dr. Alexander Eggermont
Prof. Eggermont, MD, PhD is Full Professor and Head of Surgical Oncology. He holds the Chair of Experimental Surgical Oncology endowed by the Dutch Cancer Society and the 'Joseph Maisin Chair' for Surgical Oncology at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium.
In 1987 he obtained his PhD thesis on 'Interferon and IFN-Inducers in the Treatment of Cancer' at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Dr. Eggermont is specialized in treatment of Melanoma, Soft Tissue Sarcoma, molecular staging methods, and isolated perfusion of extremities and organs.
He holds a number of international positions: He is the immediate past President of the Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) and previously served as Chairman of the EORTC Melanoma Group.
He is the current President of ECCO (European Cancer Organization, formerly known as the Federation of European Cancer Societies (FECS)).聽 He has published over 300 peer-reviewed papers.
