Family Fun Day and Open House at the Children's 鈥� Sunday, June 20
As part of its centennial festivities, the Montreal Children's Hospital of the UU直播 Health Centre is hosting a series of activities that will culminate on June 20 with a Family Fun Day (carnival) in the park and, for the first time in 10 years, an open house with guided tours of various hospital departments. The goal of these activities is to spotlight the Children's contribution to pediatric medicine and the community. Families are invited to celebrate Father's Day at the Children's.
"The Family Fun Day gives the whole family an opportunity to enjoy time together. In addition, the public will have access to the Children's, which will give them a good idea of how a hospital works and will underscore the exceptional care the health care professionals provide in fields such as cardiology and cardiac surgery, trauma, genetics, orthopedics and neurology and mental health," explained Diane Borisov, interim associate executive director of the Children's.
A carnival in the park!
The Family Fun Day, presented by Scotia Bank, is the largest public event the Children's is organizing to mark its centennial year. It will take place from 10 am to 4 pm in Cabot Park, across from the hospital (2300 Tupper Street, corner of Atwater). At the stroke of 3 pm, a choir of 80 singers from Evangel Church Choir will be heard as an enormous centennial cake will be served. On the program: inflatables, clowns, activities, mascots, face painting and fun for the entire family. The site will be accessible for a modest admission fee.

Visitors will also be able to learn more about the hospital through a series of free guided tours that will explain to parents and children how certain pieces of equipment work. Five different interactive tours will be offered from 10 am to 4 pm. Medical and nursing staff will be on hand to explain the care offered by over 46 different departments. An exhibition on the second floor made up of about 20 booths will help visitors discover the different services provided by the Children's.
"These tours are designed to give children an opportunity to learn about the hospital in a context other than an obligatory stay," said Borisov. "Children are naturally curious about everything to do with technology, and they always have lots of questions about all the things they see in a hospital. As such, it's a perfect complement to the Family Fun Day, since it brings us closer to the community in a festive atmosphere."
Four days of Homecoming
Other activities presented as part of this celebratory Centennial week include a Montreal Deli/Jazz evening on Thursday and a classical music concert at Redpath Hall on UU直播 campus on Friday, June 18. Under conductor Iwan Edwards, the concert will feature the young virtuoso Ronnie Michael and about 60 musicians who are UU直播 students, employees and doctors. The concert begins at 7:30 pm and tickets are available for $25. On Saturday evening, there will be a multicultural gala at the Mont-Royal Centre. All events are open to the public.
