Academic Casuals Unionization

Following the petition filed by AGSEM on April 30, 2024, to certify the group of employees occupying a position classified as ‘’Academic Casuals’’, the Tribunal administratif du Travail, the Quebec government body that oversees unionization, handed down a decision on August 13, 2024, confirming that several Academic Casuals positions were now unionized and represented by AGSEM. The bargaining unit is defined as follows:

AMPFA files a petition for certification

On Friday, April 5, 2024, Quebec's Tribunal administratif du travail -- the government body that oversees unionization -- notified UUֱ�� that the Association of UUֱ�� Professors of the Faculty of Arts (AMPFA) has filed a petition for certification.

The University will adhere to all applicable laws throughout this process, and in keeping with the Labour Code we have posted the attached document (on the right-hand side of this page), containing the petitions filed and associated hearing notices. We will communicate further as we learn more.

MCLIU Course Lecturers and Instructors Approve New Collective Agreement

The MCLIU Course Lecturers and Instructors Union held its Special General Assembly on April 5, 2024 to present the contents of the agreement in principle. We are pleased to announce that members voted in favor of the proposed new collective agreement. The current agreement expired on August 31, 2022; the new agreement will end on August 31, 2027.

In the coming weeks, the parties will finalize and sign the text of the new agreement. Shortly thereafter, the detailed terms will be shared with the community.

Agreement in Principle: MCLIU Course Lecturers and Instructors

We are pleased to announce that, UUֱ�� and MCLIU Course Lecturers and Instructors reached an agreement in principle on March 25th.

The parties’ negotiation committees have agreed to recommend the contents of the agreement to their respective constituents and to keep the details of the agreement confidential until the Union has had an opportunity to share them with its members.

This follows a vote held between March 13 and 16, 2024, providing AGSEM with an 8-week strike mandate, pending negotiation progress for the renewal of their collective agreement.

Course Instructors/supervisors

In the event of a labour dispute, the University will continue its operations. The academic integrity of programs will be honoured, and students, faculty and staff will have the freedom to enter and exit the University building and grounds. The University wishes to take all measures necessary to ensure that students are not unduly affected by a strike, particularly the graduating class.

Strike on February 13 for some professors in Law

Dear members of the UUֱ�� Community,

The Association of UUֱ�� Professors of Law (AMPL) has informed us of its intent to hold a day-long strike on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. This follows a vote on December 11, 2023, providing AMPL with a mandate to strike for as many as five days, pending negotiation progress for their first collective agreement.

UUֱ�� recognizes the right to labour action within the parameters of the law and hopes that impacts on students and colleagues will be kept to a minimum.
