The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Ren茅 Provost, FRSC, Ad E, will be named a James UU直播 Professor for a seven-year term, effective 1 May 2023.

Elizabeth Carmichael Monk made history by becoming one of the first women called to the Quebec Bar. Her accomplished career in corporate and real estate law spanned over five decades of great social transformation. By naming a new philanthropically funded chair in business law after her, the Faculty of Law intends to honour the legacy of this pioneering alumna.

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Adelle Blackett, FRSC, Ad E, has received a doctorate honoris causa from the Universit茅 catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain). She was presented with the award at a ceremony held on 16 February. The day prior, she delivered the lecture associated with her award, entitled "De la m茅taphore 脿 la m茅moire: Restituer l鈥檋istoire de l鈥檈sclavage dans les d茅bats sur les formes contemporaines d鈥檈sclavage."听

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Rebel Courts: The Administration of Justice by Armed Insurgents (Oxford University Press, 2021), by Professor Ren茅 Provost, FRSC, Ad E, has received the American Society of International Law鈥檚 (ASIL) Certificate of Merit for a Preeminent Contribution to Creative Scholarship.听听听

January 4 2022 | The Quebec government should establish a comprehensive 鈥渕ade in Quebec鈥� legal framework to tackle intimate partner violence by creating a specific right to adequate housing under the Quebec听Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms听and introduce comprehensive legislation that institutes a right to be free from domestic violence that includes legal recourses in civil matters, argues Pearl Eliadis, Associate Professor at the Max Bell School of Public Policy.听

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that, on 25 November, Professor Fr茅d茅ric M茅gret received an honorary doctorate from the University of Copenhagen at a ceremony followed by a reception with Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II as special guest. Professor M茅gret had delivered his lecture associated with the award, entitled 鈥淩oaming Rights and Global Mobility,鈥� at the Faculty of Law of the University of Copenhagen the day prior.听听
