Dentistry Awarded Two Canada Research Chairs

Drs. Martel and McKee received Canada Research Chair grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research

The Faculty of Dentistry counts two new Canada Research Chairs granted by the among its ranks. 

Dr. Marc O. Martel, who also holds a joint appointment in Dentistry and the Faculty of Medicine's Department of Anesthesia, has received a  in Chronic Pain, Mental Health and Opioid Use, which will fund his research over the next 5 years.

Dr. Marc McKee, Professor of Dentistry with a joint appointment in medicine, has received a in Biomineralization, which will fund his research over the next 7 years.

Drs. Martel and McKee are among at UUֱ, world-class scientists and scholars from diverse backgrounds who are working on new discoveries and innovations that help our environment, health, communities and economy thrive. “I extend my sincere congratulations to our newest Canada Research Chairs, who together represent the breadth of UUֱ’s research excellence across eight faculties,” said Christopher Manfredi, Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic). “UUֱ shares the CRC program’s  commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in Canadian postsecondary labs and classrooms.”

The (CRCP) stands at the centre of a national strategy to make Canada one of the world's top countries in research and development. It invests approximately $265 million per year to attract and retain a diverse cadre of world-class researchers, to reinforce academic research and training excellence in Canadian postsecondary institutions.
