Update on Macdonald Campus building closures

Following yesterday鈥檚 update, testing continues at the Barton and Macdonald-Stewart Buildings
Published: 2 February 2023

Dear members of the Macdonald Campus community,

Following yesterday鈥檚 update, testing continues at the Barton and Macdonald-Stewart Buildings. We are encouraged by the preliminary results, which have so far yielded nothing of concern, but these efforts will continue until we are confident that the buildings can safely reopen. Once this testing has concluded, we will focus our efforts on the Raymond Building.

To ensure time for comprehensive testing, these three buildings will remain closed until at least Monday, February 6, and possibly later.

  • Classes: Classes in these buildings that are scheduled during the closure period will be held online where feasible, or relocated if possible. Classes that can be neither held online nor relocated will unfortunately be cancelled.
  • Research activities: As previously noted, only research personnel who need to care for animals or maintain live cell cultures or plants may enter the buildings. Arrangements must first be made by emailing emergency.mgmt [at] mcgill.ca to make arrangements for appropriate PPE.
  • Staff: Academic, administrative and support staff working in the Raymond, Barton or Macdonald-Stewart buildings must work from home for the duration of the closure, unless their supervisor requests their presence and can arrange an alternative in-person location. Staff who cannot perform their duties at home will be paid for the days they cannot work.

We will continue to keep you apprised via email and the Macdonald Campus website as more information becomes available. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this situation as quickly as possible.

Pierre Barbarie,
Senior Director, Campus Public Safety, on behalf of the Emergency Operations Centre
