The phenomenon of artistic migration to Paris: Schulich School of Music hosts International conference
The international conference Artistic Migration &听Identity: Paris 1870-1940听takes place April 27-29听at the Schulich School of Music.听
Coordinated by Professor听Steven Huebner and Post-Doctoral Fellow听Federico Lazzaro, 听the goal of the conference is to develop听a comprehensive understanding of the issues related to artistic migration to Paris in this time period. 听听It seeks to听explore the phenomenon of artistic migration to Paris during the Third Republic from an interdisciplinary perspective (music, literature, and the visual arts), offering researchers from different fields the opportunity to compare their case studies and to formulate ideas that transcend their field of specialization. Researchers听will give presentations on听topics in music, visual arts and literature, and there will be several concerts illustrating this time period. 听The conference is made possible in part through the collaboration of Trio Hochelaga, Institute for the Public Life of Arts and Ideas (IPLAI), the Project 芦听Musique et nation dans l鈥檈ntre-deux-guerres听禄, and the Montr茅al Museum of Fine Arts.听
The 听conference, which has been funded through a Connections Grant from SSHRC,听will be preceded by a study day on April 26th titled 'Silence is Golden: Surealism at 100 and the Place of Music in its History,'听听coordinated by Professors Jeremy Cox and Lloyd Whitsell听 to be held in collaboration with听the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. 听Conference听keynote speakers will be Ihor Junyk,听from听Trent University, and听Pascal Ory, 听from听Universit茅 Paris听1, Panth茅on-Sorbonne. 听
