Robert Hasegawa named a William Dawson Scholar

Congratulations to Robert Hasegawa,AssociateProfessor of Music Theory, who has been named a William Dawson Scholar, one of UUֱ’s most prestigious internal awards! This award recognizes a scholar who is becoming an outstanding and original researcher of world-class caliber and is poised to become a leader in their field. He will hold the award for a five-year term.

Professor Hasegawa is a proud advocate of contemporary music, and his research interests includemusical timbre,spectral musicandtransformational theory. His publications are numerous, with articles inMusicTheory Spectrum,Perspectives of New Music,Contemporary Music Review,andGrove Music Online. Forthcoming projects include twobook chapters in theOxford Handbookseries titled“Creating with Constraints” and“Timbre as Harmony—Harmony as Timbre.”In addition, he isanactivecomposer, currently working on a new commission for saxophonist Doug O'Connor.
