Chris Kusuhara a prize winner at this weekend's 44th annual National Music Awards

Pianist Chris Kusuhara, a student of Kyoko Hashimoto has been awarded Second Prize and the Special Award at the National Music Festival held in Kelowna, B.C. 聽In 2013 he received a Developing Artist Grant from the Hnatyshyn Foundation.

Alum Chris Howard promoted to Distinguished Analyst at Gartner

Chris Howard has worked as a research analyst for Gartner since 2005, studying technology trends. Earlier in 2014, he was promoted to VP Distinguished Analyst, and continues to provide thought leadership on emerging tech and business trends. His travels take him around the world, and he is in demand as a keynote speaker for major events. When home with his wife Anne and 5 dogs, Chris still plays and composes in his studio and on his 1954 Mason and Hamlin A.

Schulich School of Music Composition alumni and students awarded numerous prizes in the 2014 SOCAN Foundations Awards to Young Composers.

With a total of seven prizes at the SOCAN Foundations Awards to Young Composers, the Schulich School of Music Composition Area has performed remarkably. 聽Four out five of the 2014 SOCAN Foundation Awards for Young Composers have been awarded to current or former Schulich Students, and prize winners in the Sir Ernest MacMillan awards Category consist exclusively of former Schulich Students. A new approach to music theory education. 聽Three videos illustrate the master apprentice method of teaching the art of counterpoint with all transpositions and shortenings of cadential passages. 聽The videos, filmed at the Schulich School of Music, feature a spectacular four octave Italian 聽harpsichord that is part of the Kenneth Gilbert Harpsichord Collection.

Vanessa Blais-Tremblay, PhD student in Musicology and Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies has won the SOCAN 2014 Writings on Canadian Music.

The Schulich School of Music announces the appointment of Soprano Dominique Labelle to the Voice Faculty effective August 1st 2014

With a career that includes numerous appearances on stages in Europe, Asia and North America, Dominique Labelle鈥檚 return to Qu茅bec as voice professor at Schulich is both a joyous homecoming and marks the turn of a page. 聽聽Ms. Labelle has consistently received great acclaim for her performances and has made numerous recordings of opera and concert repertoire.

This year Schulich Grads Sweep Jazz at the Junos

Graduates of the Schulich School of Music聽posted a clean sweep of the jazz category at Saturday鈥檚 Juno Awards in Winnipeg.

Program alumni Christine Jensen, Mike Downes and Mike Rud took home the hardware for Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year,Traditional Jazz Album of the Year and Vocal Jazz Album of the Year respectively.
