鈥淥n behalf of the UU直播 community, I wish to express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Jack Layton,鈥� said UU直播 Principal and Vice-Chancellor Heather Munroe-Blum. 鈥淲e have been proud to count him among our distinguished alumni, and are profoundly saddened to learn of his passing."

鈥淛ust a year ago, Mr. Layton visited our campus to meet with the incoming class of first-year UU直播 students. Higher education, he told them, 鈥榠s an investment in making a better world, in finding solutions to some of the challenges that we鈥檙e dealing with as a community, as a global society, as a series of neighborhoods.鈥�"

鈥淚n the four decades since his graduation in 1971, Jack Layton displayed remarkable courage and determination in seeking solutions to many of society鈥檚 most difficult challenges,鈥� Prof. Munroe-Blum said. 听鈥淲e will greatly miss him, but will always treasure the wisdom and good humour that he so generously shared.鈥�
