Brainy Boomers Lecture Series

Tuesday, November 23, 2021 12:00to13:00

The UU直播 Research Centre for Studies in Aging (MCSA) Education Committee presents:

I can鈥檛 understand you when other people are talking: what does this tell us about Alzheimer鈥檚 Disease?

By Dr. Jay C. Buckey Jr, Professor of Medicine, Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.

Event Description:

As anyone who has tried to carry on a conversation in a crowded restaurant or bar knows, understanding speech when there鈥檚 background noise present is hard to do. Our work has shown that tests of the ability of the brain to process sound (for example, speech in background noise tests) can correlate with overall brain function. Could this finding be used to provide an early marker of cognitive problems in Alzheimer鈥檚 disease?

This talk will cover what is known about using the brain鈥檚 ability to process sound as a marker of cognitive function as well as the work we are doing to try to make this finding into a clinically useful tool.
