SPOT Professor Aliki Thomas has been selected as the 2018 winner of the UU直播 Faculty of Medicine Maude Abbot Prize. The award recognizes an outstanding female faculty member who excels in education, research, or administration with a focus on the early career stage.

Dr. Thomas was honored for her extraordinary productivity and passion for research in the development and assessment of advanced clinical competencies including evidence-based practice, clinical reasoning, decision-making, and the development of professional expertise.

Dr. Bussi猫res was recently awarded the Canadian Chiropractic Association (CCA) 2018 Researcher of the Year Award at the CCA Conference in April.

The award 鈥渉onours an investigator whose contribution has improved the clinical treatment of chiropractic patients and has demonstrated outstanding research achievements and advancement of new knowledge in their field of expertise.鈥

For someone with Parkinson鈥檚 disease (PD), the simple desire to grasp a glass of water can become an insurmountable task, made impossible by the tremors in their hand or arm. Finding strategies to improve these movement impairments is one of the major goals of rehabilitating people with Parkinson鈥檚 disease.

At UU直播, Dr. Marc Roig, an assistant professor in the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy (SPOT), is studying the effects of using high-intensity exercise to stimulate the brain鈥檚 ability to learn and change with repeated experiences.

Dr. Timothy Wideman has been awarded a Planning and Dissemination Grant from CIHR for his project, "Developing stakeholder endorsement methodology to measure the outcomes of pain education in Canadian physiotherapy programs."
