Strategic Lead – Partnerships and Knowledge Exchange

Jennifer Proudfoot is the Strategic Lead - Partnerships and Knowledge Exchange for the Department of Equity, Ethics and Policy (DEEP), responsible for leading the department's knowledge translation and exchange work. She oversees the development of KT training initiatives, advises on KT strategy, implementation and evaluation, and facilitates dialogue and collaborations with policy, community and academic partners. Jennifer has extensive experience working across disciplines and sectors for policy and practice change in Canada and internationally.

Grants Administrator

Karmel Johal provides support in grants administration to the Faculty in the Department of Equity, Ethics and Policy (DEEP). She joins us with experience in research administration in Pre-Awards and has worked on large grant applications (e.g. CFREF, CERC). Karmel holds a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Biochemistry (England, UK), a Masters in Medical Science in Cell Biology & Anatomy (England, UK), a Doctorate degree in Tissue Engineering (England, UK) and is a Postdoctoral Scholar in Cell Engineering (Scotland, UK). Karmel was also a Research Fellow in Japan, and in her early years in Hong Kong. Additionally, she is qualified in Clinical Research (Toronto, Canada) and is University of Cambridge CELTA-qualified. Karmel has always been interested in medical research, bioethics and healthcare.

Student Affairs Administrator

Kate Shaw supports and develops new and existing student programming for DEEP in her role as Student Affairs Administrator. She encourages all students with questions, feedback, and new ideas to get in touch — she’d love to chat. Kate holds a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Hispanic Studies from UUÖ±²¥, and has previously worked in research, business development, and early childhood education.

Senior Administrative Coordinator
& Assistant to the Chair

Sonia Bichler is the Senior Administrative Coordinator and Assistant to the Chair of DEEP. Sonia provides administrative support to the Chair, faculty and students as well as acts as the webmaster for the website. Sonia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from UUÖ±²¥ and a CEGEP Certificate in Graphic and Web Design from John Abbott College. Prior to joining DEEP, she was part of the Faculty Development Office’s administrative team.

Senior Administrative and Student Affairs Coordinator

Anaik Fortier is the Senior Administrative and Student Affairs Coordinator for DEEP and provides administrative support to faculty, staff and students. If you have any questions please feel free to contact her. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology (joint specialization) from Concordia University. She has previously worked in administration for facility maintenance and finance.
