The Office of Sponsored Research is pleased to invite faculty members and graduate students to an outreach session focusing on the available programs sponsored by Mitacs which offers financial assistance to students interested in undertaking research through a university-business partnership. This session would also benefit faculty members as these programs can lead to new connections with Canadian companies, increased funding and unique training opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows through applied, industrial research projects. Mitacs also supports 2-way mobility of students between Canada and the international community

UUÖ±²¥ will host Rebecca Reich, Mitacs Director of Business Development, who will present various programs and provide helpful tips on how to mix and match these programs. She will also provide details on projects that have successfully used these programs to the advantage of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and researchers.

Discussion will center on the following programs:

Mitacs Accelerate and ElevateÌý

Through the and programs, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows apply their specialized expertise to business-related research challenges. Interns (graduate students or postdoctoral fellows) bring new perspectives to the problems faced by the industry partners by spending approximately half of their time on-site with industry and the remainder at the university advancing their research under the guidance of a faculty supervisor. This program is open to all disciplines and all industrial sectors, and projects can span a wide range of areas, including manufacturing, technical innovation, business processes, IT, social sciences, design, and more. These programs are offered jointly by Mitacs and the FRQNT.

Mitacs Globalink

Through the , senior undergraduate and Masters students are provided funding to facilitate two-way mobility to partner countries to do research with a host university. There are awards for students coming to Canada and students going abroad to strengthen collaborative ties with countries such as Brazil, China, India, Mexico, Turkey, Vietnam and France (limited).

We will accept questions ahead of time so information can be incorporated into the session and help guide discussion (rreich [at] mitacs [dot] ca (Rebecca) or agnes [dot] wong2 [at] mcgill [dot] ca (Agnes))
