Art Hive Open Studio

The UUֱ Art Hive is a space devoted tomaking art and community,located within the Healthy Living Annex at the Student Wellness Hub.

We offer creative experiences to foster a sense of togetherness along with individual well-being.

Participation requires no art background or experience.

Various art supplies are at your disposal to be creative.

The Art Hive affords members of the UUֱ community the opportunity to step out of their daily challenges, spend time in a very different place, and return to their work feeling more relaxed and focused. We at the Art Hive believe it is important to be mindful of the need to disconnect from stress and to reconnectwith others.This initiative is being offered weekly on Wednesday & Friday from 10:30AM - 1:00PM. Note that the Art Hive on October 4th will be taking place inside the Residence Life office at 3465 Durocher.

Emotion Regulation

The goal of an emotion regulation workshop is to help participants develop and improve emotion regulation. By engaging in this two- session workshop, participants may: develop emotional awareness, develop understanding of negative emotions, learn to accept negative emotions, learn new strategies to lessen the intensity and duration of emotional responses, and learn to increase positive emotions and engage in activities that bring joy and satisfaction.

Fit Minds

This workshop is designed, above all, to offer you a joyful experience of exercise. It is designed having in mind the potential of physical activity and movement as a tool that can be useful in fitting the mind while also the body. We will cover themes such as mental fitness which will address emotional regulation, self-compassion, confidence and challenges we experience to become more physically active or keep it up once we have started.

If you are planning to start going to the gym, or playing a sport that is new to you, or restarting one that you did in the past and you have doubts, discomforts, or any kind of worry of the types of 'if's' and 'what if's', then this workshop is for you, also.

This workshop consists of five, one-hour-and-a-half sessions. Each week we will start with a brief educational segment with discussion, followed by an exercise routine, and will end with a short debriefing reflection and open exchange. Please plan on attending all 5 sessions. Finally, this workshop is inclusive and open to all students with all levels of fitness, because it is more about having fun and getting our minds fit.

Meditation

Join us for an introductory meditation workshop designed for beginners, where you can attend one session or all! Discover the transformative benefits of meditation, such as enhanced focus, reduced stress, and improved emotional well-being. No prior meditation experience is necessary – this workshop is perfect for anyone looking to explore meditation in a supportive environment.

Open to UUֱ students, this workshop offers a welcoming space to begin or deepen your meditation practice. The meditation style taught in these sessions is based on the Sivananda yoga tradition as taught by Swami Saradananda. Each session will include instructions for establishing a comfortable seated position, mudras (hand gestures), and brief pranayama (breathing exercises) in preparation for meditations ranging from 10 to 15 minutes in length.

Mindfulness & Self Compassion

Mindfulness and self-compassion focus on accepting our experiences and being kind to ourselves, especially when we are feeling down or stressed. Research has supported that mindfulness and self-compassion are linked to increases in one’s overall wellbeing. This group is intended for students who are thinking about slowing down, being more mindful, and less critical of themselves- but do not know how to! Neurodivergent Students Support Group

IMPORTANT: Please read the description below before signing up for this group. If you are on the waitlist, an administrator will contact you to confirm whether you can attend.

This is a support group for neurodivergent students who are seeking support to navigate alternative learning methods and develop the confidence and communication skills to help navigate interpersonal relationships, including interactions with professors & teaching/academic aides. Neurodivergent students include, for instance, students who believe they may fall within the spectrum of neurodiverse learning styles such as having attention deficits, hyperactivity, hyperfocus, learning disabilities, or being on the autism spectrum. Participants of this group will have the opportunity to share mutual experiences, challenges, and tips on navigating academic and personal wellness at UUֱ.

*Please note that we will NOT be offering assessments or diagnoses for ADHD/ADD/ASD/LDs.

GROUP FORMAT:

Participants will meet weekly on Wednesdays for 9 weeks. Group size is limited to 8 participants for the 9 week period.

Each 50-minute session (11:00AM to 11:50AM) will begin with a check-in, then move on to a discussion around the theme of the day, and will finish with time for questions and identifying key takeaways from the session.

Each week will focus on a different theme:

Session 1 September 25th: Introductions, ground rules, expectations, goals, the meaning of neurodivergence to each, and sharing stories.

Session 2 October 2: Navigating academic life, the educational system, residence, and Montreal

Session 3 October 9: Stress management, resources, when to ask for help

October 16: Reading week. No group session.

Session 4 October 23: "Adulting" and transitions

Session 5 October 30: Relationships, connection, sexuality

Session 6 November 6: Relationships cont’d

Session 7 November 13: Diagnosis, medication, management

Session 8 November 20: Strengths, creativity

Session 9 November 27: Wrap up and feedback from participants

Sport Hive at Mac Campus

Come and join the Sport Hive at Mac Campus. In collaboration with the Student Wellness Hub. Mcgill Moves, and UUֱ MacDonalds Athletics, the Sport Hive is a place to move and enjoy lawn and ball games. This event is to promote wellness trough movement and to build a sense of community on campus.
We will be providing of balls and lawn games to make this enjoyable. A painting station will be set as well to let your creativity be while enjoying the September sun.
